Shemʿun Quqoyo Simeon the Potter (5th/6th cent.) [Syr. Orth.].

Author of nine short poems on the Nativity. When Yaʿqub of Serugh came across him working as a potter (quqoyo) in Geshir, a village in north Syria, he soon recognized his poetic talents. Imitations of his poems gave rise to a specific genre of poems, designated ‘quqoye’.
